2012 BID NEWS: NEW YORK'S CHANCES SURGE

After its bid looked dead in the water following problems with a new Olympic Stadium, New York’s bid for the 2012 Olympics seems to have been rejuvenated.

It has surged into third place in the latest Around the Rings Olympics Bid Power Index.

The index is based on inspections by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Around the Rings, bid books and bid strategies. Cities have been rated in 11 key categories, scored on a scale of one to 10. The last ranking was published on May 9.

However, frontrunners Paris and London also picked up points.

Paris still has the top score, rising three points to 89, followed by London at 87, up two points, with New York rising to 83, a six-point increase in the three weeks since the last ranking.
