2012 BID NEWS: IOC LIFELINE FOR NEW YORK

New York Olympic bid leaders have been handed a potential lifeline via an International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruling that allows for modified plans in the event of "exceptional" circumstances.

A memo from the IOC to New York City bid chief Dan Doctoroff could signal that a last-minute substitution may be in the works after the rejection of public finance for the new stadium in Manhattan, reports aroundtherings.com

In response to a query from Doctoroff, IOC communications director Giselle Davies made clear that in “in such an exceptional circumstances as this, a bid city has the right to address the issue in front of the Executive Board.”

What the available alternatives are is not certain.

Reports in New York say the option of private funding to replacing the state money rejected this week for the stadium may take too long and require a complicated zoning review that would keep the final product at risk.
