Three million viewers in the UK tuned in for live coverage of the England team’s first match in soccer’s European Women’s Championship on Sunday evening.
The audience for the dramatic 3-2 victory over Finland - covered by the BBC, the UK’s public service broadcaster - peaked at just over 3 million, the highest figure recorded for a women’s match in the UK.
Nearly 30,000 spectators attended Sunday’s match at the City of Manchester Stadium, a record crowd for a competitive women’s soccer match in Europe.
