It extends American Express’ involvement as the ‘Official Card’ and ‘Official Travellers Cheque’ of the US Open. It also becomes an ‘Official Sponsor of the US Open Series’, the six-week summer tennis season that links all major North American tournaments to the US Open.
The first programme under the deal saw American Express card holders able to purchase advance 2005 US Open tickets with any American Express Card prior to the Monday, June 6 general public sale.
The promotion was supported by ads on local radio and in newspapers.
Cardholders are also able to redeem Membership Rewards points for tickets, and as a special bonus, for every ticket purchased with an American Express Card for the first three evening sessions - Monday, August 29 through Wednesday, August 31 - the cardholder will receive an additional ticket free.
American Express will again sponsor Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day presented by Hess on Saturday, August 27, a full-day tennis and music festival for children and families.
The credit card will have presence at the US Open through signage in Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, and the Grandstand, as well as video and message boards throughout the grounds for the duration of the tournament.
