ESPN IN US SOCCER DEAL

ESPN has reached a multi-year agreement with Soccer United Marketing (SUM) to serve as exclusive worldwide television representative for the US men’s and women’s national team home matches.

These include World Cup Qualifiers and friendlies. The scope of the agreement also includes global sales rights for Major League Soccer.

In addition, ESPN International has secured the exclusive cable and satellite television rights to official US national team and Major League Soccer matches for broadcast on its networks in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and the Pacific Rim - covering more than 120 countries.

Said Douglas Quinn, president, SUM Enterprises: “With the 2006 FIFA Men’s World Cup on the horizon and the Women’s World Cup in 2007, worldwide interest in soccer in the United States is growing at an astounding rate.”
