FIBA NETS PROGRAMME DEAL

FIBA (the International Basketball Federation) and Sportsbrand Media Group, the international sports marketing company, have reached a four-year agreement to produce and distribute worldwide a magazine television programme.

Entitled ‘FIBA World Basketball’, the 26-minute weekly programme starting in October 2005 will cover highlights and feature stories from international tournaments including the FIBA World Championships, the various FIBA Zone Championships and national leagues.

Patrick Baumann, secretary general of FIBA, said: “This partnership with Sportsbrand will enable our sport to be regularly showcased throughout the world. FIBA, the FIBA Zones, National Federations as well as National and International club competitions will now have FIBA World Basketball to further assist in the worldwide promotion of international basketball.”

“The opportunity to partner FIBA in a sport that is also one of the most popular elements of the Olympics is very exciting. Basketball is a great universal sport that reaches premium audiences on a global scale. We are pleased to once again be able to provide that audience with a top of the line weekly magazine programme,” said Malcolm Gray, chairman of Sportsbrand.

Paul Stimpson, head of the FIBA Television Department, said: “With the addition of FIBA World Basketball we will now have a year round offering for our broadcast partners. The weekly programme will be a perfect vehicle to promote our national, continental and world competitions as well as being able to utilise the extensive FIBA Archive.”

Sportsbrand already produces official weekly programmes for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP Tennis Weekly) and the International Cricket Council (ICC Cricket World), seen in more than 200 countries.
