Hockey had suffered a huge cut in funding after disappointing recent displays from men's and women's teams.
But the new four-year investment - worth £500,000 per year - depends on co-operation between England Hockey and the Great Britain Olympic Hockey Board.
"We are delighted at developments in hockey and have decided to invest," said Sport England boss Roger Draper.
Plans to give Britain more of a standing in world hockey at the expense of its component nations were ditched this year when Scotland and Wales objected to what they saw as a down-grading of their status.
