GRASSROOTS CRICKET PLAN LAUNCHED

Former Trade Union boss Bill Morris is fronting a bid to raise £25million for the development of cricket in UK schools.

Morris, now a member of the England and Wales Cricket Board, said: "We hope we can get funds for a 10-year strategy to revitalise grassroots English cricket.

"This is a project for schools but recognises cricket, with its special qualities, has a contribution to the make to the development of the young."

The plans is to raise the necessary £25million over a five-year period and Morris revealed that progress had already been made, with 25 per cent of the funding already in place.

"Now we're looking for sponsorship, commercial activity and donations large and small," he added.
