Un Yong Kim of South Korea has decided to step down as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

A statement from the IOC says a May 9 letter from Kim dated May 9 was received on Friday, announcing his resignation.

Kim, 74, has been in jail since 2004, after being convicted of bribery and embezzlement involving his leadership of the World Taekwondo Federation and Korean Olympic Committee.

He was suspended from the IOC in January 2004, shortly after being charged and jailed.
