DUTHIE ADDS TO SPORTS LAW PRACTICE

Sports lawyer Max Duthie has rejoined international law firm Hammonds as an associate in its Leeds office.

He returns to Hammonds' Sports Law team to work across a range of matters, with the particular aim of expanding the firm's sports law practice outside London.

Duthie began his career at Slaughter and May in 1994, and joined sports law specialists Townleys in 1998, where he remained until 2002, after the firm merged with Hammonds Suddards Edge.

He then joined the commercial litigation team at Freehills in Australia where he worked on a variety of sports law matters, including FILA's long-running dispute with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission over its sponsorship of Australian Rules and rugby league clubs.

His expertise includes commercial disputes, disciplinary and doping matters, ambush marketing, competition law, intellectual property rights, and broadcasting rights.

Duthie is a former professional rugby player and has written widely on sports law. He has also lectured on the subject for the Liverpool University MBA course and at Sydney University.
