The billionaire owner of NLF's Tampa Bay Buccaneers has reportedly offered £790million ($1.47billion) for Manchester United Plc, the world's biggest soccer club by revenue, after boosting his stake to 57 per cent.
Glazer is said to have offered 300 pence per share, 13 per cent more than yesterday's closing price, after purchasing the 28.7 per cent stake held by McManus and Magnier.
The purchase gives Glazer control of the most profitable club in the world.
Shares in United rose as much as 13 per cent today and were trading at nearly 300 pence.
Under UK takeover rules, an investor must make an offer to all shareholders once their stake reaches 30 per cent.
Details of how Glazer will finance the offer have not been disclosed.
Supporters are said to be furious at the development and have threatened to boycott the club.
