COTTON STEPS DOWN

Fran Cotton has resigned from his posts with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and will leave this summer.

The former England prop served as a representative on the International Rugby Board and was also an IRB representative on the RFU Council.

The BBC reports that Cotton made the decision due to the increasing difficulty of trying to balance his time with his business-related interests.

Cotton managed the 1997 Lions tour and was described by RFU president Malcolm Phillips as "one of the icons of the game".
