BARCA CLOSE TO DEAL WITH BEIJING

Press reports in Spain indicate an historic sponsorship deal is imminent between FC Barcelona and the City of Beijing.

A party of officials from the Spanish soccer giant led by president Joan Laporta, have been in China since Wednesday to broker the historic deal that would be worth a minimum of 95million euros over five years, with the final annual fee of between 19 and 27million euros being the final stumbling block.

The deal, which has been constantly rumoured in the last few months, would give the city welcome publicity worldwide in the run up to the Olympics in 2008.

It is not yet understood whether the Beijing Olympic logo would be displayed on Barca’s shirts.

FC Barcelona have been known to be studying various offers in the last year for what would be the first shirt sponsorship deal in the club’s history.
