ESPN'S DAZZLES VIEWERS

ESPN Classic Sport has teamed up with Belgian diamond co-operative, The YAM (Young Antwerp Manufacturers), and Diamdel, a specialist supplier of rough diamonds, to stage a dazzling competition for viewers.

In a bid to boost brand exposure, one of its 16 million European subscribers is set to walk away with a 1.28 carat diamond, valued at some B13,000.

ESPN Classic Sport subscribers across Europe are being invited, via a 60-second promotional advert, to log on to the web site, www.espnclassicsport.com to enter the ‘Belgian Diamonds’ competition.

Mike McKibbin, director of marketing and promotions at ESPN Classic Sport, said: “The 'Belgian Diamonds' competition is a good example of ESPN Classic Sport’s flexible marketing and promotions framework in which campaigns and programme stunts (in this case the legendary Belgian sportsmen and sportswomen), are targeted both on a territory-specific basis as well as a pan-European approach.”

Diamond sponsors The YAM, which have previously supported successful events such as the Antwerp Diamond Sailing Race, are said to have secured heavy online and on air promotion on ESPN Classic Sport, as well as high profile branding on newsletters and advertising.

To complement the ‘Belgian Diamonds’ publicity stunt, ESPN Classic Sport is scheduling a host of programming celebrating some of the greatest moments in Belgian sporting history.

The 24/7 entertainment sports channel launched in Belgium on cable operator Telenet in January 2005.
