ICC BACKING FOR INTERIM SRI LANKAN COMMITTEE

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given its backing to the interim committee appointed by the Sri Lanka Government to run Sri Lankan cricket.

Following legal advice ICC chief executive, Malcolm Speed, has informed other ICC members that it will accept the new body as the organisation now responsible for running the game in Sri Lanka.

The decision comes after the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs exercised his powers under local laws and dissolved Sri Lanka Cricket following complaints of financial mismanagement, appointing the interim committee to run the sport instead.

But the board remained defiant and, led by president Thilanga Sumathipala, took legal action against the government.

It had succeeded in gaining a court order preventing its dissolution without a hearing, until the completion of the legal case.
