Some 7,000 volunteers for the Almeria 2005 Mediterranean Games being held from June 24 to July 3 will also become volunteers for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, should Madrid win the race to be elected host city.

It means Madrid 2012 now has almost 28,000 people listed who want to volunteer, reports GamesBids.com

It is estimated that around 20 members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with voting power, along with IOC president Jacques Rogge, will attend Almeria 2005, the last sports event that will see IOC members going to Spain.

A Madrid 2012 delegation travelled to Singapore on Wednesday ahead of meetings organised by the IOC to take place on April 29 and 30.

Representatives of the five candidate cities will attend the meetings to review the technical aspects relating to the IOC session being held there on July 6, when the host for the 2012 Games will be announced.
