WIMBLEDON'S RECORD PRIZE MONEY

Wimbledon prize money will approach a record $20million this summer.

The total figure for the tournament is going up 3.9 per cent to $19.16million, the highest ever prize money for a tennis tournament according to the All England Club.

Players are set to benefit from the rising value of the British pound against the US dollar.

Despite the lobbying for equal prize money to men and women, the men continue to be paid more even though the gap has narrowed.

The men's singles champion will get $1.19million, $50,000 more than the women's winner.

Total prize money for the men's singles and doubles will be $9.56million and $8.17million for the women. The balance will go to mixed doubles and invitational events, reports ESPN.com
