The IOC has recently completed a major review of all the 28 sports which formed part of the programme at Athens and IOC chiefs are set to consider the findings this week.
The review also encompassed golf, rugby, squash, karate and roller sports – all of which are hoping to replace an existing sport in time for the 2012 Games.
Addressing the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations in Berlin, the IOC president said: “There should be no anxiety. The process will be a totally fair process. Reading the report, I have only one conclusion. We have very strong federations, and strong federations should have nothing to fear."
