Reports in the US say a deal worth in excess of $6m for the rights were agreed with the National Guard last week in a bid to enhance its recruitment drive.
But the deal was then scrapped after pressure from Senator John Warner who claimed the deal was not a wise investment during a time of war.
However, reports today suggest a new deal may have been agreed – although it is unlikely to be the National Guard RFK Stadium as originally mooted.
The announcement comes just hours before Major League Baseball’s Washington National’s play their first home game of the season.
