CAN NEW DEAL BREAK ICE FOR NHL?

Hopes are rising a new compromise deal may finally solve the seven-month NHL lock-out.

According to reports in the US, representatives from both the league and players’ association will meet again next week, with a new strategy designed to bring an end to a dispute which is devastating the sport.
Although no firm details have been confirmed, the deal set to be discussed is understood to go someway towards satisfying both sides and break the deadlock.
The two sides met last week and insiders report a thawing in relations, prompting hopes a new compromise deal could be given serious consideration.
However, although it is hoped talks will resume next week, no date has yet been set.
