STEWART GETS BOARD BACKING

The board of the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) has voted to back Sir Jackie Stewart in his fight to remain as the club's president.

A BRDC members' poll called for Stewart to go and he now faces a motion calling for his removal at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) next month.

But Stewart says the poll was unofficial and did not reflect members' true opinions.

"The EGM is the culmination of a very public campaign against me," said Stewart.

Stewart says he is confident that BRDC members want him to continue in his role.

The campaign to oust Stewart is led by former Chairman Ray Bellm but Stewart denies he was behind Bemm's removal in January.
