GEM will be responsible for maintaining and increasing the profile of Sportsmatch in the media, as well as ensuring recognition of the scheme’s role in community sports development in England.
Sportsmatch can match £ for £ a sponsor's new investment in a bona fide development programme. It is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through grant aid from Sport England and administered in England by the Institute of Sports Sponsorship. It receives around £3.5million in Government funding per year.
Since it was set up in 1992, around £85million has been invested into grassroots sport as a result of the scheme.
Almost 5,000 companies have had their sponsorship projects, and range from multi-national companies such as Coca Cola, McDonalds and Nike to small local businesses.
