INDIA STILL TAXING ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) is yet to receive undertakings it is seeking concerning tax issues that are acting as a barrier to the staging of ICC events in India.

The ICC board has re-iterated its desire to stage the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 in India, subject to its concerns over the Indian government’s failure to grant tax exemption on revenues earned from the event.

Following a meeting in Delhi, the board instructed the ICC to seek a resolution by May 2005, with Pakistan on standby to host the event.

The ICC will also consider easing the demands on Test nations.

All 10 nations have to play each other home and away every five years. But ICC management will now investigate a plan to switch to a six-year cycle, to reduce the amount of cricket played.

It was also agreed to extend the term of office of the current ICC president, Ehsan Mani, for an additional 12 months up until June 2006.
