FIRST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE RIGHTS SALE

UEFA has agreed the first sale of broadcast rights for the 2006 to 2009 Champions League, which have gone to Dutch pay broadcaster UPC.

As well as competitive offers for individual packages of rights in live and delayed matches, highlights and magazine programmes, UEFA said it also took into account UPC’s growth in the Dutch pay broadcast market and its focus on top quality football programming.

UEFA said strong offers were also received from free-to-air broadcasters, but all needed further clarification. Through its marketing agency, TEAM Marketing, UEFA has invited broadcasters to re-submit their offers, focusing on the rights still available.

The deadline for re-submission is April 1, 2005.
