Magdalena Alvarez, Minister of Public Works, has set out a new plan for 200 kilometres of lanes exclusively for bus use on all motorways providing access to Madrid.
Once the new bus lanes are constructed, it will be possible for all the venues to be reached by underground, bus or bicycle, eliminating the use of private cars should Madrid host the 2012 Games.
Construction has already started on some roads and will begin on others in April, reports GamesBids.com
Meanwhile, 23,500 volunteers have pledged their support and help for a Madrid 2012 Games, through its website. They come from more than 50 different countries and five continents.
