2012 BID NEWS: LONDON'S COMMONWEALTH BOOST

The British Commonwealth is reportedly ready to pledge 40 per cent of the votes London needs to win the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

According to the UK’s Sunday Mirror newspaper, London needs 52 votes to beat frontrunner Paris when the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) 103 voting members select the host city in Singapore on July 6.

The Mirror reports that Ron Walker, head of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, said that as many as 19 votes, from IOC delegates in nations of the former British Empire, are already in the bag.
