The presentation was made at a half-day conference - ‘Handing on the Olympic flame - architectural perspectives of the future’ - the world’s leading international real-estate event, in Cannes, France.
The Moscow Games would use 33 competition venues. Of these, 21 permanent venues already exist and eight new venues will be built. Four of the eight new sites are scheduled for construction in the period up to 2012, regardless of whether Moscow hosts the Games; and only four venues will be built specifically for the event.
Other key parts of the plan include the construction of the Olympic and Media Villages in the north west of the capital, which will boost housing capacity when converted to modern residential facilities after the Games.
Additional developments include a plan to significantly increase the number of international standard hotel rooms in Moscow and to enhance the city’s transport infrastructure through an expanded road system, new metro facilities and renovations to the Vnukovo airport.
If selected to host the Games, Moscow has guaranteed that commissioning and construction of all the planned venues and accommodation will be achieved by 2010.
