IEC SIGNS ASIAN QUINTET

IEC can now boast five Asian Championships in Olympic sports ahead of SPORTELAsia.

The Asian Table Tennis Championships will take place on Cheju Island, Korea from August 27 to September 2, 2005, with 40 hours of world feed available from host broadcaster KBS.

The Asian Volleyball Championships will be divided with the Women's Championship in Taichang, China from September 1 to 8 and the Men's in Thailand from September 20 to 27. A total of 28 matches will be produced, and UBC will host broadcast the Thailand leg.

The Asian Badminton Championships will be hosted by India from September 8 to 12, with 10 hours of production by DD Sports available live from the final two days.

Asian Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships will be staged in Surat, India from January 9 to 13, 2006 where Dubai-based TAJ TV has been appointed as host broadcaster.

Finally, there is the Asian Beach Volleyball Championships set for August 2005.

"This collection of Championships have region-wide broadcaster appeal with up to 43 Asian nations eligible to compete" said IEC chief executive officer, Jonas Persson.
