BARCLAYS REACH OUT WITH LIVERPOOL SITE

Anfield Youth Club (AYC) in Liverpool is the first flagship site to benefit from a £600,000 funding package from Barclays and the Football Foundation.

It is part of a £30million investment from the ‘Barclays Spaces for Sports’ initiative to create sustainable sports facilities in communities across the UK. The AYC will undergo a complete refurbishment and modernisation programme thanks to the funding package.

In addition to a fitness room, two activity rooms and new roof and playing surface for the sports hall, AYC will also receive kit and equipment worth £5,000 and a £45,000 development fund from Barclays to ensure the site’s sustainability.

Activities offered to all members of the community will include football, netball, trampolining, table tennis and archery and it is anticipated that more than 80,000 people annually could benefit from the improved facilities once work is completed later this year, doubling the current number.

Barclays Spaces for Sports, a partnership between Barclays, the Football Foundation and Groundwork, will create 21 flagship sports sites and up to a 100 local sites for local communities over the next three years and continues to provide kit and equipment for sports groups across the UK.
