NRL CLUBS LOOK TO OLYMPIC STADIUM

Australian Rugby League (NRL) club St George Illawarra could play some of its games at the Telstra Stadium, the 2000 Olmypic Stadium at Homebush Bay, in the season which kicks off on Friday, according to chief executive Peter Doust.

Four clubs - the Bulldogs, Wests Tigers, South Sydney and the Dragons - could next season be playing out of Homebush Bay.

Local press reports say the plan is likely to upset the fans of the merged club as it means Dragons fans in Wollongong and southern Sydney will lose games at their established stadiums.

Souths are poised to sign a four-year deal to play all their home games at Telstra Stadium from 2006, and Wests Tigers meet Parramatta there on Saturday night in the first of their four matches at the venue this season.

Bulldogs chief executive Malcolm Noad last night confirmed for the first time his club wanted to move to Telstra Stadium full-time, immediately.

NRL chief executive David Gallop said he would not interfere in clubs' decisions on where to play, but chief operating officer Graham Annesley said having four sides at one stadium would create scheduling headaches.
