2012 BID NEWS: 85 PER CENT BACK PARIS

A survey by a French market research group, CSA, has shown that 85 per cent of respondents want Paris to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games.

According to the Associated Press, eight per cent opposed the bid and seven per cent had no opinion.

Those in favour highlighted significant “economic benefits” from hosting the Olympics, while others said it would “improve France’s image abroad” and “help develop sport” in the country.

Those against feared an increase in taxes, restaurant and hotel prices while others were concerned that Paris couldn’t afford to pay for the Games.

The survey was carried out on February 9 and 10 from a sample of 1,002 people over the age of 15.
