2012 BID NEWS: RECORD VOLUNTEER NUMBERS FOR PARIS

A record number of Parisians have volunteered to help Paris 2012 host members of the International Olympic Committee’s evaluation commission and the world's media.

One hundred top volunteer candidates will be selected to support the Paris 2012 team during the commission’s visit. All selected volunteers will speak at least two languages and will assist with logistics, transportation and information services.

The visit will take place from March 8 to 13 and bring more than 200 international journalists to the French capital.

Philippe Baudillon, chief executive officer of Paris 2012, said: “This is a true indication of the overwhelming public support for the Paris Olympic bid and the French nation’s L’Amour des Jeux”.

“We had unprecedented volunteer support during the FIFA World Cup in 1998 and the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 2003. We are confident that it will be even greater if we are awarded the honour to host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the world’s most prestigious international sporting event.”
