DAYTONA 500 HITS RATINGS RECORD

Fox's telecast of Sunday's Daytona 500 matched the 2002 Daytona 500 as the highest-rated race in NASCAR history.

The ratings for Sunday's race in eight of the nation's top-10 TV markets showed double-digit increases compared with the ratings for last year's race, reports USATODAY.

The rating in New York (5.5) improved 17 per cent, Detroit (11.6) 47 per cent, San Francisco (5.8) 32 per cent, Atlanta (20.4) 28 per cent, Dallas (9.5) 23 per cent, Washington (11.9) 19 per cent, Philadelphia (10.4) 11 per cent and Chicago (9.0) 10 per cent.

Overall, the rating for Sunday's race topped the rating for last year's Daytona 500 on NBC by 3 per cent.

In the five years that Fox and NBC have combined to televise NASCAR, the average rating of 10.4 for the Daytona 500 is 17 per cent higher than the 8.9 average for the previous five Daytona 500s on CBS.
