Philip Hindle of Castleford Tigers has been named as the new president of the Rugby Football League (the RFL).

He succeeds Gary Hetherington, chief executive of Leeds Rhinos.

Hindle, a 69-year-old retired businessman, joined Castleford’s board of directors in 1978.

Steve Wagner of Featherstone Rovers was elected as the new vice president while Maurice Watkins was re-elected as a non-executive director of the RFL’s board of directors.
