Liu Peng, named in December as the director of the State Central Sports Administration, has been chosen as president of the Chinese Olympic Committee.
The post also includes an executive presidency of the Beiijing organising committee, BOCOG, reports aroundtherings.com
Meanwhile, Beijing vice mayor Zhang Mao said that the city will have enough rooms for the Olympics in 2008. Zhang says new construction will bring the number of hotel rooms to 110,000 by 2008.
Sponsors of the Beijing Olympics are being recognised with the formation of what’s called the Partners Club. The group, which held its first meeting this week, aims to encourage cooperation and exchange among the sponsors.
Members of the Partners Club include the 11 worldwide sponsors of the Olympics and the seven national sponsors of the 2008 Games.
The national group roster includes: Bank of China, China Network Communications Group, China Petrochemical Corporation, China Mobile Communications Corporation, Volkswagen Group China, Adidas Greater China and Air China Limited.
