GLAZER IN FRESH UNITED BID

Tagged in

American businessman Malcolm Glazer has launched a new bid to buy soccer giants Manchester United, hoping a £800million takeover plan will prove more attractive to investors.

Already the club’s second largest shareholder, Glazer is reported to have significantly cut the borrowing element of his offer, said to be worth 300p per share. This would value the club at nearly £200million more than its share price as at Friday evening.

According to the UK’s Daily Telegraph, the proposal – which is not yet a formal offer – will comprise £300million debt, but with promises to increase capacity at Old Trafford to 76,000, provide funds for players and retain the existing executive directors.

But the reclusive owner of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who won the Super Bowl in 2003, will need the agreement of United’s largest shareholders – Irish entrepreneurs John Magnier and JP McManus.

Supporters of the world’s richest soccer club remain strongly opposed to Glazer’s takeover plans.
