Athens is the latest venue to join the race to host the 2005 swimming world championships.
Berlin and Moscow have already lodged bids with world governing body Fina after Montreal lost the right to host the event due to a lack of funds.
All three cities have pledged to stage the event on the same dates originally scheduled for Montreal - July 17 to 31.
Fina intends to decide on a new host by February 15.
