Yamaha Motor Australia will be title sponsor of the April 3 showdown. The event will be called the 2005 Yamaha Phillip Island Superbike World Championship.
The 2005 Yamaha Phillip Island Superbike World Championship round will be held at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit April 1-3.
Yamaha Motor Australia director, Steven Cotterell, said: “Valentino Rossi won the MotoGP world championship, Stefan Everts and Stefan Merriman both took out world off road titles, Chad Reed won the THQ AMA Supercross Championship and the YZF-R1 totally dominated the European Superstock Championship taking the out the first four championship positions.
“This sponsorship marks the beginning of our celebrations for Yamaha’s 50th anniversary year. We are also celebrating the phenomenal success of the R1 Motorcycle and Yamaha’s return to the Superbike World Championship.
“2005 is arguably the most important year for Yamaha worldwide as we mark our anniversary by challenging for all the major world championships.”
