Beijing plans to recruit 80,000 to 100,000 volunteers to help out at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, claim organisers.

Vice president of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG), Jiang Xiaoyu, says a drive to recruit volunteers will be launched before June according to aroundtherings.com

Jiang says most of those recruited are expected to be students from colleges and high schools, but volunteers from outside China are being sought too.

BOCOG plans to expand its staff to about 4,000 by 2008. It currently employs 320 people in 19 departments, according to state media.
