The Sydney Morning Herald reported that NZRU staff have contacted ground owners in Australia.
While a long shot similar to sharing sub-hosting rights with Japan, the fact that matches in Australia are even being considered shows the NZRU is looking at every possible avenue to secure the future tournament.
Given the fall-out between Australia and New Zealand over staging the 2003 World Cup, any approach would be, to say the least, interesting.
The Sydney Motning Herald said New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Chris Moller would say little when contacted in Fiji yesterday, but union staff working on the cup bid are talking with ground owners in Australia."We are looking at all the options," Moller said.
