It continues TVNZ’s long history of involvement as the New Zealand broadcaster of every Commonwealth Games since television coverage first began in 1966 from Jamaica.
“It is the most significant broadcast investment ever made with New Zealand for the Commonwealth Games,” said Ronald Walker, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation chairman.
The Games will be broadcast on TVNZ’s market leading TV1, with additional coverage on TV2. Over 130 hours of coverage will be broadcast, the majority of which will be live.
The agreement gives TVNZ television and radio rights to the Commonwealth Games across all platforms in New Zealand.
TVNZ has also agreed to make available multiple, fully produced feeds for use by other Melbourne 2006 rights holders.
