KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN TEAMS UP WITH SP HOLDINGS

SP Holdings plc, the marketing services company, has signed an agreement with the Kingdom of Bahrain in a bid to become the pre-eminent professional sports marketing company in the territory.

The joint venture will exploit the commercial rights and properties owned by Bahrain's sports entities that come under the General Organisation for Youth and Sports (GOYS) in the Kingdom, and across the Gulf and Arabic-speaking region.

The business will manage all sporting rights, working with a variety of sports and venues, including the Bahrain International Circuit - home of the Middle East's only Formula One race circuit - and Bahrain Football Association.

Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, president of GOYS, said: “We see sport participation and the commercial development of sport, as a key driver for Bahrain and the whole region.

“We continue to make a significant investment in sport and sport facilities to benefit the reputation of our country, people and economy, and look forward to working with SP Holdings to accelerate this process.'

Tony Simpson, chief executive of SP Holdings, said: “Bahrain and the Gulf states are undergoing extraordinary growth and change. We are honoured to be working with the sports authorities in Bahrain and this joint venture will help raise the international profile of Bahrain, whilst creating a strong sports marketing presence in the heart of the region.”
