From March 7 to 13, 2005, ESPN Classic Sport is scheduling a specialist strand of programming billed as ‘Nordic Nights’. The two-hour series will feature some of Scandinavia’s pre-eminent sporting heroes and some of the most memorable moments in Nordic sporting history.
Programmes slated for this new series, aimed at ESPN Classic Sport viewers in Denmark, Sweden and Finland, include: the official Lillehammer Winter Olympics 1994 film; action from the 1981 French Open tennis tournament, featuring Bjorn Borg and Ivan Lendl; and NHL Stanley Cup action, featuring some of the world’s top Nordic ice hockey players.
In Scandinavia, the 24/7 English-language sports channel has been televised in Sweden for over a year, with major cable network Comhem, and is carried by two platforms in Finland, Helsinki TV and Suomen 3K TV. In Denmark, FastTV, owned by the international Bonnier Media Group, offers over 45 TV channels, all delivered in optimal digital picture and sound quality.
ESPN Classic Sport says it has signed this non-exclusive deal with FastTV in Denmark to strengthen brand awareness for the channel and pave the way for further carriage deals in Scandinavia.
