The Football Association was boosted by news that gates for the FA Cup third round matches last weekend were the highest for nearly a quarter of a century.
The 31 ties were watched by 535,487 fans, an average attendance of 17,273, reports The Daily Telegraph. Not since 1981 has the average been as high.
The figures were despite the Burnley v Liverpool game being postponed.
