UNITED SET TO BLOCK NEW GLAZER MOVE

Manchester United may issue an official stock exchange statement that will demand Malcolm Glazer "put up or shut up” in his bid to take control of the club, according to the Financial Times.

The club’s board has been told to expect an improved £800 million bid from the US tycoon who owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL franchise.

"We are not going to enter into any negotiations ," an unnamed source was quoted in today’s report as saying. "If there is a formal offer, we will look at it."

The new offer is expected to have a bigger cash component following rejection of a previous bid which, it was believed, could have led the club into debt.

Fans of the world’s moast commercially successful club believe that a Glazer offer funded on the security of the Old Trafford stadium and other assets could ruin the club.
