2012 BID NEWS: MOSCOW LOOKS FOR EXTRA PUNCH

Moscow has appointed world champion boxer Kostya Tszyu as an international ambassador in its bid to host the 2012 Games.

Tszyu, 35, the undisputed super lightweight champion of the world, boasts 30 wins and 24 knockouts from his career so far.

He now lives in Australia but was born in Russia’s Urals, and in Moscow on Friday he received the award for the ‘Best Russian Athlete Living Abroad’.

The bid team says the boxer will promote the city’s unique “Olympic River” concept, the fact that two-thirds of the needed sports competition venues are already in the ground and Russia’s dedication to sport and Olympic achievement.
