RUGBY LEAGUE PROFIT BOOST

Rugby league chiefs in Britain have been toasting another successful year that brought profits of £750,000 in 2004.

The success is said to be largely down to the appeal of the new Tri-Nations Series, which attracted crowds in excess of 180,000 for the six games involving Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand.

It is the third successive year the Rugby Football League (RFL) has recorded a profit following the restructuring of the game three years ago. Up to £250,000 of the money has already been given to National League clubs, reports the BBC.

Talks are still ongoing about staging another Tri-Nations Series in 2005.

The RFL is also said to be close to agreeing a new sponsor for Super League from next season onwards.
