CRICKETERS PAID TO SIT OUT GAMES

Cricket Australia (CA) has been called on to tighten its contract list following claims it has paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars to players to do nothing.

Some of CA's top 25 contracted players received a base payment of at least $80,000 in recent seasons, even though they did not play a Test or one-day international in their contracted years, reports The Herald Sun.

Australia's top players have already been offered a deal where their payments pool for next year will be less than the $28million they are guaranteed this year. The move has angered the players, who were expecting an improved deal.

CA maintains there will be generous pay rises and no pay cuts. But to achieve this, it is expected they may contract less players at international and state level.

Some officials feel there are too many players on the CA contract list, particularly at a time of such stability in the national side. England only has 12 nationally contracted players.
