PHONAK LICENCE APPEAL REJECTED

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has turned down an appeal by Swiss team Phonak over the reinstatement of its licence for next year's Pro Tour.

The UCI's licences commission has backed the organisation's original decision to deny Phonak a licence following three recent doping cases within the team, reports Reuters.

The commission also confirmed that Phonak was in breach of UCI regulations concerning image contracts.

Phonak is holding a news conference later on Tuesday in response to the UCI ruling.

The Swiss team could still appeal to the international Court of Arbitration for Sport.
