OLYMPICS OFFICES RAIDED

Finance police representing the Italian government have carried out raids on the offices of Turin 2006 and in Rome, at the National Olympic Committee of Italy (CONI).

The Turin Organising Committee (TOROC) 2006 president Valentino Castellani told aroundtherings.com that he is not surprised about the raid, which follows a raid last week at Agenzia Torino – the public agency building infrastructure for the Games - over a bribery investigation involving a tunnel project.

Castellani says no specific allegations have been made against TOROC or CONI that merited a raid by the financial police.

"There is no hypothesis of legal offence," says the TOROC chief.

He says a number of documents were photocopied during the police visit, but he described them as ordinary and said the papers could have been furnished to the authorities without a raid.
